Artist Statement
My work explores the richness of existing
between worlds—drawing from my Costa Rican, Puerto Rican, and North American heritage to create art that celebrates the beauty of multiple cultural identities. Through printmaking, painting, portraiture, and mixed media, I navigate the intersections of family, culture, and nature, honoring the traditions and stories that have shaped me.
I work across diverse mediums because I believe art encompasses all forms of creative expression. Each technique—whether lithography, vibrant portraiture, or figure drawing—offers a different language to communicate the complexity of identity and belonging. My practice is rooted in the understanding that we are not limited to one place or one story, but are shaped by the many landscapes, traditions, and voices that connect us.
Inspired by my family and the natural world, my work invites viewers to find their own connections and meaning. I don't impose a singular narrative; instead, I create space for personal interpretation, encouraging others to see their own experiences reflected in the colors, forms, and figures I create. My art is an invitation to explore what it means to belong to multiple places, to carry multiple histories, and to find beauty in that expansiveness.
Through my ongoing studies in Liberal Studies and Studio Art at California State University, San Bernardino, I continue to expand my understanding of how art can bridge cultures, generations, and communities—creating work that is as diverse and multifaceted as the world we inhabit.
